Software and gadgets I use to get the job done.
I'm a techie at heart and love to try out new software and gadgets to optimize my life for the things I enjoy doing. Here's a list of my current favorites. I'll try to keep this list updated as I change things up. If you have any questions about any of these, feel free to reach out on Twitter. I'm always happy to chat about this stuff 😬.
Workstation
13” MacBook Pro, M1, 8GB RAM (2021)
• PersonalI was using an Intel-based 13” MacBook Pro from 2012 prior to this and the difference is night and day. Though it does get a little laggy sometimes, but that is mostly because of the crazy amount of browser tabs I have open. I'm still amazed at how much power this little machine packs.
14” MacBook Pro, M1 Pro, 16GB RAM (2021)
• ProfessionalThis machine is a beast. I use this for all the heavy lifting I need to do for my day job at Razorpay.
27” Dell UltraSharp u2720Q 4K UHD monitor
• ProfessionalI use this monitor for my day job. The fact that it has a USB-C port which allows me to connect my Macbook to it with just a single cable is amazing, it charges my Macbook and also acts as a USB hub.
Logitech K380 Keyboard
• PersonalHonestly, I just bought this because it was the cheapest Bluetooth keyboard I could find. It's been a great keyboard so far, I love the fact that I can switch between my Macbooks with just a press of a button.
But if I was buying a keyboard today, I would probably go for Logitech MX Keys which has all the same features as this one, and has backlit keys and is more ergonomic to type on.Logitech MX Master 3 Mouse
• PersonalThis one has been a super-productive mouse for me, battery life is amazing, lasts me for months on a single charge. I love the fact that I can switch between my Macbooks with just a press of a button.
11” iPad Pro, 3rd Gen
• PersonalGifted by my dad, I use this for all my online reading, and quick meetings on the go. I also use it to watch movies and TV shows. During house parties we often play games on this.
I also happen to have bought the Apple Pencil 2, but I don't know what I should use it for.
Development tools
ARC Browser
• PersonalI shifted to ARC around early 2023 back when it was invite only and in early-beta. I have a lot of tabs open at any given time, and it helps me organize them into different projects and topics.
I like it because ARC is defying how browsers have looked for decades now, and I love the fact that they are trying to innovate in this space.Visual Studio Code
• PersonalBest code editor out there hands down, I've tried a lot of editors - Sublime Text, Atom, Vim, Emacs, IntelliJ, WebStorm, etc. But I always come back to VS Code. It's just so good at the workflows I do everyday. Also, have to tried github.dev? It's VS Code in your web browser!
Github Co-pilot
• ProfessionalI've been using this for a while now, and I'm really impressed with the results. It's not perfect, but it's a great tool to have in your arsenal.
iTerm2
• PersonalI’m honestly not even sure what features I get with this that aren’t just part of the macOS Terminal but it’s what I use. It's also much better looking than the default terminal.
Design
Figma
• PersonalI'm no Designer, but I use it for all my design needs. I love the fact that I can use it for wireframing, prototyping, and even for creating illustrations. I also use it for creating SVGs for my websites. It works great for brainstorming and collaborating with my team.
Productivity
Raycast
• PersonalNeed to do some quick maths, need to do some currency/timezone conversion, need emojis? Raycast has got you covered!
It is the Lionel Messi of the application launcher world. Haven't used MacOS spotlight in years.Apple Notes
• PersonalI use this for all my personal note-taking needs. I love the fact that it syncs across all my devices and is super fast. I also use it for writing down my ideas and thoughts.
*Personal: Stuff bought by me, stays with me forever.
*Professional: Stuff bought by my employer, stays with me till I work there.
